Dear Colleagues,

we are pleased to announce a EUROMECH Colloquium on Cutting Mechanics of Soft Tissues: Non-linear Fracture and Contact Mechanics, taking place in Graz (Austria), from August 25th to August 27th 2025.

This colloquium aims to bring together experts from various fields – applied and fundamental scientists, physicists, engineers, and biologists – to jointly address the current challenges in the science and applications of cutting, fracture and contact mechanics, in soft biological tissues as well as biomaterials. Topics to be discussed include, but are not limited to:

• Theoretical and experimental approaches to fracture mechanics of soft tissues and biomaterials
• Cutting-based mechanical characterization of soft tissues and biomaterials
• Needle insertion in medicine and robotic surgery
• Cutting and puncture in animals and plants

Important information

The Colloquium is articulated in a series of lectures and poster sessions.

Speakers, selected by the scientific committee, will present their research in plenary podium talks. Other researchers and students are welcome to attend the Colloquium and can present their work in dedicated poster sessions. All accepted posters will be collected in a book of posters that will be published on the Colloquium website.

Important dates

Abstract submission

Participants who wish to present a Poster in the dedicated sessions of the Colloquium are required to submit an abstract, following the instructions available in the Abstract Submission page.

Registration and fees

In order to register to the Colloquium, please use the form available in the Registration page, choosing the appropriate fee category. These are:

• Speaker (early bird): 360 €
• Poster (early bird): 260 €

Registration fees include: admission to the full conference programme, conference dinner (registration information will be provided), coffee breaks and lunches, conference bag. 

The fees do not include the mandatory annual Euromech membership for non-members (30 €).
